Maraschino is an original liqueur from Zadar produced according to a traditional recipe ever since the 16th century. The first tradition of apothecaries in a Dominican convent had been then through centuries assumed by small distilleries and later by small factories located in the City of Zadar. Based on that, after the World War II the production was continued at the factory Maraska. The characteristics of this sweet liqueur are crystal translucency, characteristic taste and aromatic scent. Primary raw material in production of Maraschino is a high quality distillate gained by a special processes of maceration and distillation of ripe fruit and leaves of unique Dalmatian marasca sour cherry (Prunus cerasus marasca), so that the distillat contains aromatic etheric and esthetic properties of marasca sour cherries. Maraschino is a liqueur with multiple usage – apart from the fact that it can be enjoyed for itself, its flavor, aroma and scent are used to refine ice-creams, fruit salads and sweets especially coming from Dalmatia.
